The Fitts Era 2008-2012

The Fitts Era 2008-2012
So much happened during this period: Jeff came back full-time. Jonathan Reedy turned from high school student to full-time employee. We had a press room that Jeff ran–from negatives, to plates to printing, cutting and folding. We had sports for our kids, theatre and school events, Jeff built a garage somehow…the list goes on. We cemented relationships with customers too numerous to name and took risks on equipment that paid off. We experienced hard times with my father dying and customers getting older. This old building with hot summers and cold winters didn’t keep us from having fun but we were ready for a change and it was coming….

The Fitts Era 2000-2007

The Fitts Era 2000-2007
In 1999 we moved to our current location, doubled our space, brought along Winnie Brumsickle’s business Advantage, Jennifer Rigg’s business Pacific Design, Jennifer Zaehring and Jesse Douglas Seitz. We were too busy growing our business and familes to take many pictures but we did enjoy lighting up the sky at Christmas. My boys Carson and Connor hung out there part time, sometimes napping in the bathtub. Alice Shull joined the team as graphic designer and our bulletin boards got even better. Jeff started building his home and worked as a youth pastor. He did part-to full time work for us depending on the other jobs. During this time he finished his home before welcoming Emily, Ethan and Sierra. During these years we employed various students, part time and some moms with kids in school including Nancy, Andrew and Matt Downsworth, Chris and Evan Michael, Julie Ross, Kathy Youngbuck, Kathy Eisenhauer, Johannes and Luis Paul, Josh Miller and Jonathan Reedy. In 2004-2008 he left us to teach Junior High at Paideia Classical School but came back after-school and summers to allow me precious time with my boys.

The End of an Era

The End of an Era at Printonyx
We are spending the week walking down Memory Lane: Jeff Fitts, Printonyx’s longest term employee, will be leaving us Friday, September 1st after more than 27 years (on and off). Jeff called out of the blue two months before my first baby was due in June 1996. Maternity plans were way up in the air. He was in graduate school in California and we’d met the summer before when he was an intern at Islands Community Church.

“I don’t want to work at the donut shop again this summer,” he said. “Where have you been working this year?” I asked. “Staples, in the copy center,” he replied. That’s all I needed to know. He has been a blessing to me ever since.

These pictures were taken in the 500 sq.ft., pre-1999 shop on West Street across from Vinny’s. It was a hot, poorly insulated, oddly configured shop that we would later remodel to be 300 sq ft bigger, but it was still funky. Stay tuned for more memories and stop by this week to write a message or share your memories. Friday we invite you to an open house from 10 am to 12 noon to say goodbye!
